Premila Singh
Artist Profile – Color Me Africa Fine Arts
Born in Delhi, India, Premila Singh discovered her love for art at a young age. Encouraged by her mother, she began sketching and painting as a child and gained early recognition at just eleven years old when she won first prize in an All-India art competition organized by The Illustrated Weekly for her self-portrait. She later earned a master’s degree in Psychology, graduating with a gold medal from Loreto Convent, Lucknow.
In 1994, Singh traveled to South Africa for business and soon found herself deeply inspired by the country’s beauty and diversity. Making South Africa her home, she began exploring the continent’s people, wildlife, and landscapes through her art. Her creative journey across Africa profoundly shaped her artistic vision, infusing her works with vibrant color, movement, and emotional depth.
For more than two decades, Singh’s art has celebrated the spirit, resilience, and dignity of African life. Her expressive compositions capture the energy of everyday moments, the grace of wildlife, and the luminous landscapes of the continent. Through her work, she seeks to convey not only admiration but also empathy for the experiences and triumphs of African communities.
Singh held her first solo exhibition in Johannesburg in 2004, sponsored by the Indian Embassy in South Africa and inaugurated by Mr. Jagdish Tytler. Since then, her paintings have been exhibited widely in India and internationally, earning admiration from collectors and audiences around the world.
Her art stands as a luminous bridge between cultures—an ongoing dialogue between her Indian roots and her deep connection to the soul of Africa.
