Uhule Nguemo Martha

Uhule Nguemo Martha hails from Benue State, Nigeria, and was born and raised in Makurdi. She completed her primary and secondary education in Makurdi before gaining admission to the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa State, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Visual and Creative Arts, specializing in Painting.

During her undergraduate studies, Martha completed a six-month industrial attachment under the mentorship of Mr. Ebenezer Akinola Samuel, a renowned Nigerian artist whose guidance helped refine her technique and deepen her artistic vision. After completing her training, she returned to the university to finalize her academic studies with distinction.
Following graduation, Martha served in Gashaka Local Government Area of Taraba State during her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program, which she successfully completed in March 2025.

Now a full-time studio artist, Martha continues to explore themes rooted in identity, memory, and environmental consciousness. Through her expressive brushwork and sensitivity to color and form, she translates everyday moments and cultural narratives into poignant visual stories that reflect both personal and collective experiences.
Her dedication to the visual arts reflects not only her creative discipline but also her belief in the power of art to inspire reflection, dialogue, and connection.

Artist Statement
“My work centers on the quiet power of love, memory, and care. Leaves of Promise II reflects how the earth and human connection are intertwined—both fragile, both vital. The cassava leaf, a familiar symbol from my childhood, becomes a metaphor for growth and remembrance. Through these figures, I paint a hope that our bonds—with each other and with nature—will always endure.”
