Raji Mohammed Babatunde

Biography

Raji Mohammed Babatunde (b.1986, Lagos) is an impressionist artist known for creating figurative portraits rendered in warm hues and brown skin tones. His paintings capture mundane life experiences, and draw on the innocence of children - their instincts of love and justice.

He holds a NCE from Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, ljanikin (2008) and a Bachelor in Art Education from the University of Nigeria in Nsukka (2015). He undertook his Industrial Training (IT) programme at the Universal Studios of Art, Iganmu, Lagos, Nigeria, training under renowned artists such as Abiodun Olaku, Ejoh Wallace and Joshua Nmesironye in 2008. He further went on to train under the renowned Nigerian artist Ebenezer Akinola in 2009 where he mastered his figurative painting skills. He is the Coordinator of Space29.7studios in Lagos, Nigeria.

Babatunde paints in different media such as oil, acrylic, charcoal, pastel, pen, and graphite. In 2019, his painting titled "Reflection" was selected among the 260 best works in the British Portrait Competition and a 2024 ABSA L'Atelier Art competition finalist in South Africa. His works are in notable collections worldwide, and has participated in several group exhibitions and six solo exhibitions to his credit.
