Description

Title: Layers of Reality Series
Medium: Acrylic on textured canvas
Size: 36 x 36 inches
Year: 2025

In Resolute III, Roji Mohammed Bobotunde distills strength into stillness. The subject’s unwavering gaze emerges from a vivid crimson surround, creating a striking dialogue between vulnerability and power. Wrapped in an enveloping red field, the figure appears both protected and exposed — a visual metaphor for resilience forged in challenging circumstances.

The artist’s refined control of tone is evident in the deep, velvety rendering of the skin, where subtle highlights sculpt the face with quiet realism. Across the surface, gestural fragments and chromatic accents punctuate the composition, symbolizing emotional layers, lived experiences, and the invisible forces that shape identity. These painterly interruptions are not decorative — they reinforce the conceptual core of the Layers of Reality series: that resilience is constructed through complexity.

The square 36 x 36 inch format enhances its presence, offering strong wall impact while maintaining intimacy. The saturated red palette makes this work particularly compelling within contemporary interiors and curated collections focused on bold, psychologically engaging portraiture.

Following Bobotunde’s 2024 recognition as an ABSA L’Atelier finalist and his expanding international collector base, works from this series represent a timely acquisition opportunity. Resolute III exemplifies the artist’s mature visual language — technically confident, emotionally resonant, and market-positioned within the rising trajectory of contemporary African figurative painting.
